New UABC-UC Davis collaboration via Alianza MX

In continuation of previous collaboration, researchers from IIO-UABC and UC-Davis have secured a total funding of $91,930 over two years through the Alianza MX Joint Research Fund call 2023. With their proposal being one of the two selected for funding support (https://alianzamx.universityofcalifornia.edu/research-and-innovation/joint-research-funds/), the project, "Artificial Intelligence Applications for Forecasting Shoreline Evolution and Flows in Small Estuaries at the Cali-Baja Region," stands out as an innovative initiative. It aims to predict shoreline changes and simulate estuarine flows in the Cali-Baja region using artificial intelligence tools. By leveraging existing data to train AI models, the team will explore various scenarios, providing new insights for science-based decision-making in response to the impacts of climate change in the binational region.

Under the leadership of Principal Investigators Dr. Amaia Ruiz de Alegría-Arzaburu and Dr. Isaac Rodríguez-Padilla from the Coastal Morphodynamics (MORDICS) research group at Instituto de Investigaciones Oceanológicas, UABC, alongside Dr. Fabian Bombardelli from Civil & Environmental Engineering and Dr. John L. Largier from Bodega Marine Laboratory at UC Davis, this collaborative effort exemplifies cross-border research aimed at fostering enduring partnerships to address critical transboundary research needs.
